We Encourage the 3Rs
Plastics are polymers which materials are originated from something scarce and precious – Crude Oil, and that is why plastics prices are extremely volatile, just like crude oil is. And so as to conserve this precious resource and also many other resources tied along with the production process of these products, each of us can do our part in practicing the 3Rs that we should all be familiar with – Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle.
Reusing Plastic Bags
Plastic products are generally highly reusable thanks to its durability and many uses. By simply practicing a habit of keeping Plastic Bags we obtain through shopping, and reusing them when we required them we could be potentially be reducing a huge amount collectively. For example, used Plastic Bags could be reused as garbage bags, instead of purchasing new garbage bags. And if you are into gardening such as planting fruit-bearing trees, used Plastic Bags can be used to wrap around your bearing fruits instead of brand new bags (certainly other environmentally means such as old newspaper are present). We could also bring along used Plastic Bags with us to shopping (especially for supermarket/grocery shopping) instead of getting fresh new Plastic Bags, which will in return reduce the amount of Plastic Bags being used.
Reusing Plastic Containers
Plastic Containers, however, are harder to practice the habit of reusing them, as they are occasionally used for containing food products and because of its disposable design, it cannot be wash thoroughly like how we wash our cutlery.
Therefore, if you manage to come across obtaining a Plastic Container that contain article that once removed, can be cleaned easily simply with means of just rinsing, you can utilize it for a number of storage purposes. In the kitchen, these can be used to store condiments used very often, such as sugar, salt, or even spices. Outside the kitchen, these containers can be used to store loose items and small objects – stationery like paper clips and pens; small hardware even, like thumb drives. You can get creative in thinking ways of utilizing them.
And you could even design the reused plastic containers yourself to make it a more eye-candy storage alternative!
Certainly apart from storing items, you could reuse these Plastic Containers for food purposes, such as to store homemade food that is to be brought out and inevitably, needed to be disposed of.
We however, do not advise reusing these multiple times for consumable food, and microwave heating as these are designed to be disposable.
Reducing
Reducing can be simply done by reducing the amount of plastic products you receive. You could bring your own plastic bags/bags to shopping or you could bring your own food container to pack your food from your nearby food store if it is convenient. This way, you could reduce the amount of plastic products you receive and dispose eventually.
Recycling
Recycling is not the best option to being environmentally friendly, or even say, carbon footprint free, due to the energy required for the recycling process. But however, this is still an environmental effort that can be taken when the product has to be disposed eventually.
Every plastic product is made from certain material and thus categorized, and to know whether the product is recyclable and what category the product is, simply search for the recycle symbol along with a number in it, like the symbol below.
Such as the symbol above, it indicates that this product is recyclable (so please do not just dispose it in any bin!). And if you do realize, there is a number in the centre of the symbol. This number represents the recycling category the product falls into, and each category is treated differently in their recycling process. For this instance, a number 5 actually indicates that this product is made from the material Polypropylene (PP). You may also notice the abbreviation below the recycle symbol for many products. So based on the category, products can be separated into their category respectively for recycling.
For our Plastic Containers products, on the carton, underneath our Plastic Containers and above the Plastic Container Lids, a recycling symbol with a “5” within it can be identified. This symbol indicates that this product uses material under the recycling category 5, which is the Polypropylene (PP) polymer material.
For our Plastic Bags products, our Plastic Bags are manufactured using the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) polymer material. Although at times not stated on the bags and carton boxes, our Plastic Bags can be recycled and falls under the recycling category 2.
We hope you could play a part in conserving our Earth’s resources, to provide a better world for ourselves, and our future generations.
